Communication is very vital to our relationship to family and friends. In the Gospel of Matthew, 13:34, the bible says that Jesus only spoke in parables to the multitudes. When the disciples asked Him why, He explained to them, that because of the condition of their hearts, they were unable to receive the Word of God. They could not understand with their hearts, hear with their ears, or see with the eyes, what the Lord was trying to reveal to them. If the condition of their hearts was right, then they could be converted and Jesus could heal them. In other words, Jesus spoke to the multitudes, in such a way, that if the condition of their hearts was right, they could understand God's Word.
Communication is so complicated, that someone said there are six different versions of every spoken communicated word.
* What the speaker intended to say
* What the speaker actually said
* What the speaker thought he/she said
* What the hearer needed to hear
* What the hearer actually heard
* What the hearer thought he/she heard
The disciples asked about the parables, because they truly desired that both them & the people might hear with understanding. We should also be concerned, that both ourselves & the people hear the Lord's Word with understanding.
