THERE’S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME!
- Carmen M. Gibson (But4grace)
"While Joseph was thinking about this, an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream. The angel said, 'Joseph, the baby that Mary will have is from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead and marry her. Then after her baby is born, name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.' So the Lord's promise came true, just as the prophet had said, 'A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called Immanuel,' which means "God is with us."
After Joseph woke up, he and Mary were soon married, just as the Lord's angel had told him to do. But they did not sleep together before her baby was born. Then Joseph named him Jesus." - Matthew 1:20-25 (Contemporary English Version)
This Christmas, in the shadow of economic calamity, global unrest, and social decline, let us take pause to consider the supreme and profound significance of THAT NAME... the name of the One whom we celebrate this season. In doing so, may we find hopeful promise in the consistency of the nature and character of Almighty God, Who bestowed this precious, priceless gift of light to shine upon us in the darkest of times.
"After the baby is born, name Him JESUS..." The blessed baby's name is a derivative of the Hebrew name JOSHUA, which is translated "THE LORD SAVES!" Regardless of the cirumstances that may have befallen us or those close to us this year, let us hold on to this eternal, unchangable, irrefutable truth.
THE LORD SAVES...
- He is our RESCUER!
-He is our REDEEMER!
- He is our RESTORER!
"A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called Immanuel," which means "GOD IS WITH US." No matter how hard times may seem, no matter how dark the night may grow, may we always affirm the assurance of divine closeness found in THAT NAME!
GOD IS WITH US...
- He is our COMPANION!
- He is our COMFORTER!
- He is our CHAMPION!
This Christmas, as we face uncertain days and trying times, may we remember to thank God for the Word that became flesh, and for THAT NAME that is above every name! May the utterance of THAT NAME speak peace to every heart in the coming year!
BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS THIS CHRISTMAS, AND ALWAYS!!
