God is on Our Team

Psalm 116:6

“When I was helpless, he saved me.”

As a kid growing up, most of us loved to play basketball. The minute we got home from school, we’d drop our books and hit the court. There was only one problem; the basketball court was made of dirt. So, when it would rain that would be the end of the game that was until Leroy Thornton revolutionized the game. He poured a concrete driveway and placed a goal on his carport. Needless to say, this became the new place to play, and if that wasn’t enough Leroy enjoyed playing with us. As soon as he’d pull in the driveway from work we’d start yelling for him to come and play ball. He couldn’t resist. Out of fairness he’d always ask, “Which team is losing?” Then he would join that team, which more often than not, seemed to be mine.
His appearance on the court changed the whole game. He was confident, strong, and most of all, he had a plan. We’d call time out and circle around him, and he’d look at us and say, “OK boys, here is what we are going to do.” The other side was whining and groaning before we called time in. You see, we not only had a new plan, we had a new leader.
He brought new life to our team. God does precisely the same. We don’t need a new play; we need a new plan. We don’t need to trade positions; we need a new player. That player is Jesus.

I’m on the right team with the right teammate. If I run the play that God has called, there’s no way I can loose.
