Only An Illusion

There are always times when we feel alone and friendless but to our delight, these times are merely illusions. Illusions orchestrated by the enemy.  As the Lord has promised never to leave or forsake us, so we too must stand on this promise.  Many people are disillusioned at this time of the year into believing that they are alone.  Physically, there may not be anyone near us; yet spiritually, the Lord is always near.  If we are attentive to his voice,  we can hear him speak to us daily:  through his Word, in the cool breeze, the beauty of the snowfall, a song on the radio,  a hug from a child, and even the smile or brief hello from the person we meet on the sidewalk or sit next to on the subway.  If we look for him through our spiritual eyes, we can see him everywhere we look: in the beauty of a flowing brook or creek as the fresh rain causes it to flow rapidly through its course, the eyes of a newborn baby searching for the face of the mother who gives it life, the sights of Christmas holly, trees, and lights, and in the face of the grandfather being visited at the retirement home by the grandchild he hasn't seen in months.  If we are sensitive to him, we can feel his touch as: the toddler reaches for our hand  to keep from falling, the puppy snuggles near in search of warmth, and the snowflake melts against our face as we look upward into the falling snow.  God is ever so ready to spend time with us.  There is never a time that we should feel alone or in despair.  He is faithful to us.  He responds to our faithfulness in Him to watch over his Word to perform it in our lives.  Illusions of loneliness can not last when we are aware of the love of God and particularly his love for us as individuals.  We celebrate Christmas to commemorate the gift of his Son.  No one who would give his only child for us will ever leave us alone.  This assurance we can carry with us each and every day of our lives.  Matthew 28:20b - I am with you always, even to the end of this age.
