I personally dont believe in dating, but if I did, it would definitely be for the purpose of finding a mate to marry. I dont think that we, as Christians should casually date without purpose, we shouldnt do anything without purpose. In casual dating, you would be wasting your time and the other person's time as well. And think about this... if it leads to other things that could get us in trouble, you would be kissing and hugging on someone else's future spouse... a hot mess!
I can't say that I DON'T date, because how else can you get to know someone without dating them first? I can say that I believe in dating for the sole purpose of marriage. I can also say that it doesn't take 3 yrs for you determine whether or not you want to marry someone you are dating. When I date, I ask God to show me their intentions and their heart...and within the first few dates, I know whether or not the relationship is worth the pursuit.
I totally agree with your statement. I've learned through failed relationships in the past, being evenly yoked is so important. God will show you the true content of a person's heart if you pray and believe. There were always red flags in my past dates however, because I wasn't truly operating in the will of God, I dismissed every warning. After many uncalled for tears, I understood what God was speaking into my spirit. I am encouraged and encourage every single woman to seek God and allow your Man to find you........
New to BGI, but I am a saved sister that serious about "accept no substitutes" for that which God is preparing you for and preparing for you. Since being in Christ and walking thru, my life has been full of living and learning what to do and not to do in this area, therefore I will only encourage you to always seek God's will for your life and stay before HIM without ceasing, he will reveal to you what is right to do. By all means, date, how else will you be found? But let me caution you about the enemy, he will try his very best to get you to walk where God has not called you. We as Christians should always study to show ourselves approved unto God, this produces the tools and mindsets (discernment) you need to see and respond the way God would have us. The real battle is control over oneself and obedience to God's Holy word...which is always right, even when we go astray, that same word with be there to correct and reprove us, if we are will to accept it.
Amen, Sister Cheryl...well stated!
I think a person could loose it, if they are just dating for the sole purpose of finding a marriage mate, not everyone you come in contact with or maybe date is going to be marriage material, allow God to decide, always pray and ask God to direct your path, there is nothing wrong with dating as long as the person you end up dating is not on a mission or have some other motive that will allow you to go against God's will. Movies, dinner, recreational outings such as bowling, playing pool, skating, etc is no harm when it comes to dating, it is wise to be friends before lovers from past experiences. After a few dates and some decent and intelligent conversation you will know whether or not you have a soul mate on your hands.
Everyone that's single do not necessarily want to be married. If dating 'just for the sake of dating and having fun', is what a saved, single person wants to do, then that's their prerogative. I think they should be totally honest with the person they intend to go out with what their intentions ARE NOT, so that no one will be hurt. Also, if they are dating for the 'sole purpose of finding a mate for marriage', they should also verbalize that. However, after a couple of conversations, whether by phone, e-mail, in person, or whatever, mature people tend to be able to read between the lines even if it's not directly verbalized. There are some people who just want to have platonic friendships. I think most women though, want a soul (sole) mate. Another thing is that sometimes you may go into a dating relationship, or decide that you just want to date for fun and things end up more seriously than what you anticipated. (Don't mistake this for meaning sexual.) Some things are already ordained and orchestrated by God. A man may say, "I didn't have any intentions of dating or asking her to marry me, but when I walked in the room, I was awestruck! Something overcame me, and I couldn't help myself. I knew I wanted her for my wife." Then again time is of the essence for some people. LOL
I'VE READ THE BOOK "CHOOSING GODS BEST THE WISDOM FOR LIFELONG ROMANCE" ITS a great book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT MAY HELP ON HIS DISCUSSION
