Connecting, Empowering and Inspiring Believers Around the Globe

How long should one pay for a mistake? Unfortunately, if the mistake includes jail time, one typically pays a lifetime. Our society is so unforgiving of people who get out of jail and try to start a new life. How can ex-offenders become productive and contributing members of society if we refuse to give them assistance; if employers refuse to hire them; if people treat them as if they had the plague? Consider a scenario where a group of ladies are chatting comfortably with each other, sharing thoughts on life, friendships, children, and more. But, then, one mentions that she has served time in jail. The conversation is suddenly cut short, children are ushered away, and everyone suddenly has something else to do... that, of course, does not include the ex-offender. What can we do to aid people who have paid their debt to society and who truly wish to begin again? Is it true that we fall down, but we get up? I don't think so, if someone has his foot on your neck!

I truly agree with you my sister. What can be done to change this in our society is now the big question. Everyone has a past. We must stop behaving as if we have never done anything wrong in our lives. Compassion is the key. We must stop and think what it would feel like to be treated in such a way and made to feel like a total outcast. I believe this change in attitude would begin to help deter ex offenders from becoming repeat offenders. We must remember, we have all made mistakes in our lives and by the grace of God, have not had to experience such treatment.
Minister Sanford:

I think this is a very good topic to talk about. First i would like to give this scripture:Matthew 7
1. "Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? i picked this scripture because we quickly forget about this one here because we are so quick to judge someones past. It's sad because people and society are still judging people "background" and will not give them a chance to make a change or a difference. The only difference between some individuals and some ex criminal is they did not get caught for the crime they did. The bible says in Roman 2: 1. You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Lets be real about it, It's the truth. We all have a past no sin is greater than the other cause guess what it all falls under one umbrella: SIN. You have some people that have a misdemeanor, not even a felony and cant get a job. they pass drug test, job references had a good interview and suitable for the job but denied of because the criminal background. I pray that those who are in positions to hire will use discernment when they are doing the hiring process that when they come across some one who has a "criminal background they will use wisdom and see the person's heart and know they are changed.
