Divine Healing

James 5:14-15

More attention has been given to the subject of Miraculous Divine Healing in the past few years than in any period of history since the days of the Apostles. The belief that Jesus Christ heals today, miraculously, as He did when He lived upon the earth, permeates the religious thinking of countless thousands of honest and sincere people. It has been a cardinal doctrine of a number of denominations and is considered of basic importance in many others.

The New Testament text that divine healing advocates rely upon the most is found in James 5:14-15: "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."

This text, above others, clearly declares to the sick what they have to do in order to be healed. Please take note that this is a command. It is not mere privilege. It is the divine prescription for sickness & disease. Furthermore, no obedient Christian should dispense of it.

Is any sick who can exercise sufficient faith? Is any sick who has confessed all sin before God? Is any sick who will testify to healing, whether they experience immediate change or not? Is any sick who is ready to act on their faith? Is any sick who will dismiss all failure concerning the Lord?

Miraculous manifestations, during Biblical times, served as a divine seal of approval upon both the speaker & the Word of God which was spoken. Thus, modern Christian Faith Leaders will contend that God is still within the working of the miracle of healing.
