Connecting, Empowering and Inspiring Believers Around the Globe

As I reflect on this day that we set apart to honor father's, there is stirring in my spirit to ask this one question. What kind of gift did we give? One of the most quoted scriptures of the Bible is John 3:16, " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." As we pattern ourselves after our Heavenly Father, what gift did we give the world?

Typically on this day of the year, father's around the nation receive gifts from their offspring. It may be a card, a tie, or possibly dinner. Or maybe it is simply a hug, or a kiss. But typically a token of love is given. An expression of appreciation for the job we as men do on a daily basis. The role of the "father" has not really changed much down through the ages. But, how it is performed and who is performing it has. We have far to many women trying to be mother and "father." We have too many grandfathers and uncles "stepping up" to fulfill the role of "father." While I express sincere thanks and gratitude to those of us that are willing to make that commitment, I also have to recognize that there is no substitute for a "father's" love.

It is not enough to simply "sire" children and let the world take care of them. There is a unique relationship and bond that belongs to a "father." There is nothing like a father coming home at the end of a long day and being met at the door by that child that is so happy that "daddy is home." Their is nothing like the joy a child expresses because "daddy" took the time to take them to the park or just playing in the back yard. The time spent reading, watching a movie, or even just enjoying a laugh is an investment which generates incalculable returns.

There is no greater joy than to see your child develop and evolve into a gifted, talented individual with so much to offer the world. When you witness the values and dreams you cultivated in them begin to bear fruit. When you are able to recognize the sacrifices you made throughout the years have not been in vain. When you are able to look back in your old age and reflect upon their accomplishments, no matter how insignificant they think they are. That is when you are able to really see the gift you gave the world. To my father and all the other men that understand the importance of their role Happy Father's Day. One brother's perspective. Peace unto you. The Net Elder
